Welcome to Oak Class!
Our names are Mrs Horne and Mrs Coleman and this is the class for Years 4, 5 and 6 children.
The children’s work in Oak Class is organised into a range of exciting and stimulating topics, with as much of the curriculum as possible covered by each one. They include World War II, Rivers and Journeys, Ancient Greece, and Festivals. There is plenty of opportunity for the children to work creatively and to develop independence in their learning.
One of the privileges of being in Oak Class is that the children take on a variety of responsibilities within the school. Amongst other things, they set up assemblies and take lead roles in our services at the end of each term. Year 6 children are given the particular responsibility of being paired with a newcomer in Reception; they all enjoy supporting and caring for their “buddies”.
Another highlight of being in Oak Class is the residential trip. We go to New Barn in Dorset, where we have a wonderful time exploring the varied history, geography and wildlife.
Oak Class children regularly have opportunities to take part in citywide school festivals. They have sung, danced, performed their own music and created artwork.
